There are 7 of the 17 species of penguins that regularly breed in South America. There are several places in South America where penguins dwell.
Penguins in South America live as north as Galapagos Islands, where Galapagos penguins live. South of them, on the western coast of South America from mid-Chile north to Peru, Humboldt penguins live.
Magellanic penguins live in the south cone of South America in both the eastern and western coasts, from mid-Chile south to Tierra del Fuego and from there north to south Argentina.
In the Falkland Islands the Magellanic penguins can also be found, where a large population of Gentoo Penguins live. Additionally, a small population of King Penguins lives there. The Falkland Islands are also the home of a large population of Southern Rockhopper Penguins. Finally, some islands around Tierra del Fuego and the nearby parts belonging to Chile hold a small population of Macaroni Penguins.
