Newborn Penguins are named chicks or nestlings. However, the common and widely used term is a chick.

They also are called young penguins when speaking in general terms.

Baby penguins assemble groups called crèches (from French). The purpose of these groups is to protect them easily from predators and keep warm in extreme temperature conditions while their parents are away searching for food.
