Macropus rufus
The Red Kangaroo is believed to be the largest of all marsupials. They can be up to 5.2 feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds. The males have a reddish coloring but the females often have a bluish tint to them. They feature very powerful feet and a long thick tail. They also have a pouch that allows the female to keep the young (Joey) safe.
The Red Kangaroo hops when it is moving on land. They are also very good swimmers. They can move at a constant speed of about 35 miles per hour. They are only found in the hot areas ofAustralia. They may travel more than 100 miles per day looking for food. A red kangaroo was recorded traveling 134 miles. They can go for many weeks at a time without any water.
