Polar Bears keep the impressive title of being the world’s largest carnivore species found on land. An adult male can weigh up to 680 Kg. or 1500 lb.
Polar bear are inhabitant of the Arctic Ocean and its surrounding areas. The need to survive in the extreme temperatures of this zone has developed in them several adaptations to cold weather.
Among these adaptations they have up to 10 cm. of blubber, a layer of fat which insulates them from the cold. Also a sophisticated multilayer fur helps to keep body temperature.
Polar Bears are one of the animals most affected by global warming.
