Halichoerus grypus

The Gray Seal is the species that people are the most familiar with. As the name suggests they are gray in color. They have small heads, long whiskers, and they are very curious as well as intelligent. They range in size but are average around 7.5 feet long and weighing 880 pounds.

The Gray Seal mainly lives in the areas that offer cold water. They can dive deep into the water to find food. They can go for weeks at a time though without food because they can slow down their metabolic rate if food is hard to find. They are often part of zoo settings due to their fun and timid nature.
