Mustela putorius
The European Polecat is often mistaken for a Meerkat. They are often only seen out at night which is when they look for food. The diet mainly consists of rodents and rabbits. During the day they tend to stay in dens to be protected. They live solitary lives though which makes them very vulnerable to larger animals.
The European Polecat have a scent that they can release from glands when they feel that they are in danger. This scent seems to be offensive and confusing to many predators though and it gives the European Polecat time to escape to their den in many instances.
