African Elephant Calf
The African Elephant is the largest of all land living mammals. They can weigh more than 13,000 pounds and have a height of up to 13 feet. They are gray in color with large ears and tusks that tend to get larger as they get older. The ears of this species are twice as large as those of the Asian Elephant. They are often hunted for the ivory those tusks are made from.
The African Elephant consumes a variety of plants, trees, and twigs. They have a trunk that offers them the ability to take berries off of trees, to consume water, and to cover their sensitive skin in dirt.
