Walrus
Walrus Facts
Walruses are marine mammals and they are the largest member of the superfamily
pinnipeds or feet-footed mammals, a group that also includes seals and sea lions.
Walruses live in the Arctic and
sub-Arctic seas, forming several non-continuous colonies in this area.
Walruses feed on a large
diversity of marine organisms including shrimp, crabs, mollusks and some clams among many other
options.
Walruses are characterized by
their long tusks, whiskers and great bulk. Their bodies are covered with a thick layer of blubber
of up to 15 cm.
Adult male walruses can weigh up
to 2,000 Kg or 4,500 pounds.
