Seal Facts
Seals are marine mammals that are members of the superfamily
pinnipeds or fin-footed mammals which also include walruses and sea lions.
Seals are carnivorous and feed on fish, squid and other marine
creatures like penguins in some cases.
Seals live in most oceans of the world, although each species
has a defined habitat for living. The common seal or harbor seal is found in the temperate and
Arctic coastline of the Northern Hemisphere including the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
The best known species of seals are the leopard seal, the
harbor seal, and the Hawaiian monk seal among others.
Seals have special adaptations for cold like a fatty tissue
below the skin called blubber which isolates the inner organs from the cold.
